It is commonly thought that the Maasai people originally came from North Africa. They migrated southwards along the River Nile until they reached North Kenya first in the 15th century. Further southern migration meant they reached Tanzania in the 19th century. Today, Maasai people live along the borders of Kenya and Tanzania.
