If its new, try to go back to your piercer. If its older or you aren't able to see your piercer:Soak the jewelry in alcohol and then wash it with soap. Clean the actual piercing with sea salt and water or just a really gentle soap. Dont actually pu the soap in the piercing. Just clean the outside so that you wont push any junk through the piercing when re-inserting jewelry. Wash your hands REALLY well with an antibacterial soap and if possible, wear gloves. Try reinserting the jewelry. If its already closed up, don't force it through. You have to go back to your piercer and get it redone. Make sure to keep cleaning the piercing with the sea salt and water to prevent infection. Taking vitamins can help boost your immune system too.

If it's been out for less than three hours, and you have it, rinse it with cold or lukewarm water and reinsert it. No backup is needed. If it's been out for more than three hours, rinse as above and reinsert, but use a backup Birth Control method for the next seven days. If you no longer have the ring, put in a new ring now, leave it in for the normal three weeks, and then remove on schedule.

Yes, that happens to some women. Women with prolapse, or with chronic constipation, experience this problem more frequently than women without these conditions. It makes sense to check quickly that the ring is in place when having intercourse -- not because putting a new one in to replace a missing one will give you immediate protection, but because it will prompt you to use a back up method like condoms or abstinence from vaginal sex.

If it's not causing discomfort, you can leave it in. If it's uncomfortable, get a new ring. You can replace it with a new ring early, if you like. Just leave that new ring in for the full three weeks.

If NuvaRing falls out and you didn't know it, you may be at risk of pregnancy. Take the morning after pill if you had sex in the last five days. Insert a new NuvaRing now and use a backup method of birth control for the first seven days.
