Sure it is.
To be completely honest, the more people blab on about themselves, the more bulls**t there is within the story. Just get to know him by talking about a wide range of subjects and hang out with him. Eventually he'll open up more and more to you.
Most people who try to open up too fast always seem like they want some sort of validation, or they want to cling onto you to me.
