First you peal the plantains. It is easier to peal if you allow it to sit in hot water a few minutes or allow hot water to run on them. Once pealed, you cut into four pieces and place in boiling water 20-25 minutes depending on its thickness. Serve with GOYA Olive Oil and enjoy. George

Plantains belong to the banana family. However, green plantains have less sugar and contain more starch then a banana. Plantains are fried or boiled before eating. This food source is grown in regions like the Caribbean.
Plantains are traditionally used in cooking, you can steam, boil, or fry it (and I'm sure there are many other ways to prepare it). There are no traditional celebrations where plantains are special (such as tamales at Christmas for some regions of the world), but the fruit can be eaten at any stage of ripeness, and is used commonly in many cuisines around the world.
Diabetics cannot eat ripe plantain because they contain reducing sugars which we all know is bad for their health.
Plantains are firmer and have a lower sugar content than bananas. Also, plantains are starchy and can be cooked and eaten like a potato when unripe (green). When overripe, plantains are sweet. Bananas are mostly eaten raw and are much sweeter. According to Wikipedia: "There is no formal botanical distinction between bananas and plantains, and the use of either term is based purely on how the fruits are consumed."
