First you have to believe sincerely that there is only One God and Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is the messenger of Allah (God). Then you say the shahada (declaration of faith) "I testify that there is no God but God and Muhammad is the messenger of God." Ashahu ana la ilah ila Allah WA ashadu ana Muhammad Rasool ila".

if your going to believe in Islam you need to follow it you cant just say you re a Muslim you have to believe it you have to read the quran and pray but being a Muslim isn't just about praying or reading your quran you have to be honest and sincere and loyal to Islam in the quran it says if a man doesn't pray 5 times in a day they are a non religion we spend 1 hour approximately on praying the rest on to our business's. the only reason Allah created humans was so that they could worship Allah.

Islam, a name given by Allah to this religion (Quran 5:4), is an Arabic word which literally means obedience and peace. ISLAM is derived from the Arabic root "SALEMA": peace, purity, submission and obedience. So 'Islam' would mean the path of those who are obedient to Allah and who establish peace with Him and His creatures. Its follower are called Muslims.

Islam is not a new religion. It is, in essence, the same message and guidance which Allah revealed to all prophets before Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him. Allah says in the Qur'ân:

"Say, `We believe in ALLAH and that which has been revealed to us, and that which was revealed to Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the tribes, and in that which was given to Moses and Jesus and other Prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them and to HIM we submit." (Qur'ân 3-85)

Six main Articles of faith in Islam

  • To believe in the Oneness of Allah.
  • To believe in all His Angels.
  • To believe in all His Books.
  • To believe in all His Prophets.
  • To believe in the Day of Resurrection.
  • To believe in the Decree of Allah

The Five Pillars of Islam (Declaration of the Islamic Faith)

In order to enter into the fold of Islam i.e. to be Muslim, one has to know, believe, accept totally and sincerely apply the five basic principles (Pillars) on which Islam is based: Ibn Umar narrated that the Messenger of Allah - Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) said: Islam is based on the following five pillars (principles).

  1. Bearing witness that there is no God but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah
  2. Observance of Prayer
  3. Paying Zakat
  4. Fasting during Ramadhan
  5. Pilgrimage to the house of Allah.

The most important thing:

- Believe in one and only God and that Muhammad is his messenger and slave.

(and say this: there's no god but Allah and Muhammad is his messenger and slave)

Then:

- Do the 5 daily ritual prayers

(this will take some time to learn what to say and do)

- Fast in the month of Ramadan from dawn to sunset.

- Read the Quran.

- Give money to the poor

-Do the pilgrimage if you have the resources, once in a lifetime is enough. - If you're a girl, always wear a hijaab if you had your period. - You can't have a boyfriend/girlfiend.

To worship no one but the One God . . .

A person becomes a Muslim by declaring that there is no god but the One God and Muhammad is the Final Prophet of God.

Then the following become obligatory:

1) To pray five times a day at specified times and in the manner the Prophet prayed.

2) To give .025 (two and a half percent) of your extrawealth (that means wealth that is just sitting, not being used for one full year) to the poor.

3) To fast from dawn to sunset every day in the month of Ramadhan - unless you are sick, or travelling.

4) To make the pilgrimmage to Mecca at least one time in your life - if you can afford it.

To treat what God has made forbidden as forbidden to yourself, to do justice to everyone, to be good to your parents and other family members, to not lie, to not steal, to protect your honor and not commit evil deeds.

As per teachings and faith of Islam, Almighty God (Allah in Arabic) created all humans from ONE couple-Hazrat Adam (AS) and Hazrat Eve (AS). As a result, all human beings are brethren, bound to love one another. The Muslims are peace-loving and kind people.

The major beliefs on which the Muslim traditions are based are:

Eemaan Mujmal: Translation: I believe in Almighty Allah, as are His beautiful Names and Attributes, I accept all His Commands, I declare from my tongue, and testify by my heart.

Eeman Mufassal: Translation: I believe in Almighty Allah. The Angels, all heavenly Books, all Prophets, in the Day of Judgment, and this that Good or Bad Destiny is from Him, and that there will be life after death and then No death (Eternal life in heaven or hell).

1. Belief in Almighty Allah (God): God- Allah is ONE Allah. There is no god but He. He and He alone deserves worship. He is All-Knowing, All-Seeing. All power lies in His Hands. He will punish the sinners and reward the Good. He is Eternal, Unique, and incorporeal. There is nothing like Him.

2. Belief in Angels Created by Almighty God- Allah Karim from light. They are obedient to Allah Karim. Carry out His commands. The Jews and Christians also believe in the Angels.

3. The Muslims believe in all heavenly books, including Tora, Zaboor, The Bible, the last one being the Qur'an. .

4. The Muslims believe in all the Messengers (Prophets May peace be upon them all) of Almighty Allah- No distinction among them. Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) being the last Prophet of Islam. NO Prophet after him.

5. The Muslims believe in the life after death, resurrection and the Day of Judgment. Almighty Allah Karim is the Sole Ruler/Master of that Day. He enjoys the absolute authority to send people to Heaven or Hell. .

6. The Muslims believe that good and bad Destiny being in the Hands of Almighty Allah. No One can change his destiny.

7. Life hereafter: All the dead will be raised again and judged according to their good or bad deeds. There will be no death to them.

8. Hell and Heaven (Paradise)

9. The Muslims believe that Nobody can take the responsibility of some other person's deeds.

10. All the power of decision making is in the Hands of Almighty Allah, and none else.

Manners to be observed by Muslims:

Ridicule, taunts, and biting words should be avoided in presence or in absence. Suspicion and spying are unworthy of men who believe. All humans are descended from one pair. Their honor depends not on race, but on righteousness. Faith is not a matter of words, but of accepting Allah's pleasure, and striving in His cause.

Al-Hujraat -49: Aya: 11: O you who believe! Let not some men amongst you laugh at others, it may be that the (latter) are better than the former: Nor let some women laugh at others, may be that the latter are better than the former.

Nor defame nor be sarcastic to each other, nor call each other by (offensive) nicknames, Ill-seeming is a name connoting wickedness (to be used of one) after he has believed. And those who do not desist are indeed doing wrong.

Aya: 12: O Ye who believe: avoid suspicion as much as possible: for suspicion in some cases is sin: And spy not on each other, and nor speak ill of each other behind their backs. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? Nay you would abhor it. But fear Allah: For Allah is Oft-Returning, most Merciful.

Baqra 2-177: It is not Righteousness that ye turn your faces to East or west.

But it is righteousness to believe in Allah, and the last Day, and the Angels, And the Book, and the Prophets, to spend of your substance out of love for Him, for your kin, for orphans, for the needy, for the way-farers, for those who ask, and for the ransom of slaves, to be steadfast in prayer, and practice regular charity, to fulfil the contracts which you have made, and to be firm and patient, in pain (and suffering) and adversity, and throughout all periods of panic, such are the people of truth and God-fearing.

178: O ye who believe! The law of equality is prescribed to you in case of murder: the free for the free, the slave for the slave, the woman for the woman, but if any remission is made by the brother of the slain, then grant any reasonable demand, and compensate him with handsome gratitude, this is a concession and a Mercy from your Lord, after this whosoever exceeds the limits shall be in grave penalty.

Cleanliness, purity, truth, obedience, kindness, sacrifice, right conduct, trust in Allah, Allah's loving care encompasses us, it is His protection we should seek. and other virtues lead to glorious spiritual Fellowship justice to women, orphans, and to all.

Islam requires unconditional surrender to the Will of Almighty God. A Muslim must show dedication to his duties that Almighty Allah has assigned to him. Being loyal to Him, obeying His commands without showing a lightest unwillingness is considered hypocrisy in Islam. Being truthful, just, fair, sacrificing, straightforward, caring for all human beings are the basic traits of a true Muslim. Being fair and squire in his dealings with humans irrespective of their caste, creed, color, religion is obligatory on a true Muslim. A Muslim is bound to fulfil his promise in all cases. He is dedicated as per command of Almighty Allah.

Thus it must be clear in the minds of the true Muslims that killing human beings in the name of religion is not permitted in Islam. Killing of one innocent human being irrespective of his religion, caste, color or country is like killing of all human beings in the Eyes of Almighty Allah (God). Almighty Allah has created all human beings and loves them all.

There are many Ayats (verses) which show that we should do good to people. One of these is Ayat No. 36, Para-5, Sura An-Nisa: "Worship Allah, and don't associate with Him anything (as Partner). And do good to Parents, Kinsfolk (relatives), Orphans, the Needy, Neighbours who are near, Neighbours who are strangers, the Companions who are by your side, the Wayfarers, and those who are under your command (slaves, subordinates, etc.) Indeed Allah does not love the arrogant, the conceited." (Alnisa-IV-36) The Verse also shows how Merciful to and Caring is Almighty God (Allah) for human beings. It should be kept in mind that here the Order of Almighty Allah is NOT restricted to "Muslim" parents, relatives, neighbour, orphans, or "Muslim" wayfarers. All human beings are dear to Almighty Allah. He has created them all and loves them all except those who Rebel against Him or challenge His authority.

Tolerance in Islam: Al-Imra'an 3: Aya 134: Those who spend whether in prosperity or in adversity, who restrain anger and pardon all men, for Allah loves those who do good.

Sacred Struggle, Fight: Jihad: Al-Baqra-2: Aya: 190; Fight in the cause of Allah against those who fight you, --But do not transgress limits. For Allah does not love transgressors. Aya-193: And fight them on until there is no more tumult or oppression, and there prevail justice and faith in Allah, but if they cease, let there be no hostility except to those who are oppressors.

Charity: Baqra-2: Aya: 215: They ask you what to spend in charity. Say (to them) Whatever you spend is good, is for parents and kindred and orphans and those in want and for wayfarers and whatever you do is good, Allah knows it well.

Justice: Ana'am-6: Aya: 152; Give measure and weight with full justice

Al-Nisa-4: 45; We ordained therein for them, "Life for Life, eye for eye, nose for nose, ear for ear, tooth for tooth, and wounds equal for equal." Allah likes forgiveness.

Justice: Al-Nahl 16: Aya 90: Allah commands justice, the doing of good, and liberality to kith and kin, and He forbids all shameful deeds, and injustice and rebellion, He instructs you, that you may receive admonition.

179: In the Law of Equality there is (saving of) life to you, o ye men of understanding! That ye may restrain yourselves.

Islam lays great importance on deeds of kindness and compassion.

Usury: 275: Those who devour usury will not stand except as him who stands whom the Evil One has touched and driven to madness, that is because they say: "Trade is like usury," But Allah has permitted trade and forbidden usury.

Oppression: Al-Maida 5: Aya 32: We ordained for the children of Israel that if anyone slew a person - unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land, it would be as if he slew whole people: And if anyone saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of whole people

Trade: Al-Nisa-4: O ye who believe eat not up your property among yourselves in vanity. But let there be among you traffic and trade by mutual good-will: Nor kill (or destroy) yourselves: for verily Allah has been to you most Merciful.

All that has been declared illegal (Haram) by Almighty Allah in the holy Qur'an or by Prophet (SAW) in his doings or sayings. For example:

1. Attributing any Partner or Associate whatsoever with Almighty Allah.

2. Killing any innocent human (irrespective of his caste, creed, color, country, religion)

3. 3. Even halal animals or birds attributed to any idol, holy man, any Deity.

4. Worshiping anything else than Almighty Allah.

5. Adultery

6. Usury

7. Usurping the property/belongings of others

8. Backbiting, theft, robbery/rebellion etc.

9. Disrespect of any of the Prophets (May peace be upon them all)

10. Falsehood, fraud, cheating, defaming others

11. Eating flesh of dead animals/birds. Eating flesh of animals/birds declared Haram.

12. Performing any act of prayers against the teachings of the Holy Prophet (SAW)

13. (Bida'at) Inventing or adding any act of prayer not mentioned by the holy Prophet or Khulafai Rashidoon

14. (Bida'at) Deleting/subtracting any act of worship from the actions of the Holy Prophet (SAW).
