Most coaches were players at one point or another. Knowing the ins and outs of the game is a must for any potential coach. Employing effective strategies, dealing with personnel issues, evaluating talent and clock management are also key factors in being a successful coach.
You do not have to play college ball but it sure helps. You could study for this in college. There are coaches that did not play but they are very few. Bruce Pearl at Tennessee, or Mark Few at Gonzaga are examples. Neither played college ball. There are others. You will need to study the game with intensity to be a college coach.
There are many routes to becoming an actress. Some actresses study their art in college, earning a two or four-year degree in theater. Others audition for roles and may study with an acting coach.
