From Wikipedia:

Eid al-Adha
(Arabic: عيد الأضحى‎ 'Īdu l-'Aḍḥā) "Festival of Sacrifice" or "Greater Eid" is a holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide to commemorate the willingness of Abraham (Ibrahim) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. Eid is also about spending time with family and enjoying the fact that we all have food and a roof over our heads.
Eid al-Adha is the latter of two Eid festivals celebrated by Muslims, whose basis comes from the Quran.[1] Like Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha begins with a short prayer followed by a sermon (khuṭba).
Eid al-Adha annually falls on the 10th day of the month of Dhul Hijja (ذو الحجة) of the lunar Islamic calendar. The festivities last for three days or more depending on the country. Eid al-Adha occurs the day after the pilgrims conducting Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia by Muslims worldwide, descend from Mount Arafat. It happens to be approximately 70 days after the end of the month of Ramadan.
Eid al-Adha also called Feast of the Sacrifice means Festival of the Sacrifice. it is the second of the two celebrated religious holidays of Muslims.

Eid-ul-Adha is celebrated because Abaraham(PBUH) was asked by God to kill his son,As abaraham tried to kill his son an arch-angle stopped him and instead of his child he gave a sheep to kill. That's why Muslim celebrate Eid-Ul-Adha.

It is a Muslim festival that commemorates the willingness of the Prophet Ibraheem to sacrifice his son for God, even though Satan tried to persuade him not to do it. Even though his son was not sacrificed, Muslims celebrate his devotion by sacrificing a goat, sheep, cow or camel and distributing the meat among the poor and their relatives.
