Satan wants to steal, kill, and destroy. He wants us to give in, and be lead by his decieving lies. The best way to defeat Satan is by reading your Bible, praying to God, and getting adivce from other Christians.

If this notion does not make sense to you, it is because it really does not make sense. Satan entered Judaism from about the time of the Babylonian Exile as the loyal assistant to God, tasked with testing the righteousness of the faithful (see the Book of Job). Christians took this a step further and began to think of Satan as the evil adversary of God, but this is something that Jews have never accepted.

In Judaism, Satan could not want your soul, and Christianity did not originally see this as part of Satan's plan. In both cases, the theology behind Satan was the exoneration of God for the existence of evil in the world. As the Judaic assistant to God, Satan was a free spirit and could inflict suffering as he felt necessary, so God could not really be blamed for the evils that occurred (see again, Job). As the Christian adversary to God, Satan inflicted suffering of his own evil free will, so of course, God was entirely exonerated.

A medieval notion was that Satan wanted the souls of the faithful, and was even willing to bargain for them, or make payment in this life in return for eternal suffering in the next. This notion has not entirely disappeared, but the modern concept of evil is more realistic and most adult Christians would not consciously think of Satan as seeking souls in this way.
