* * Democrats care about ending terrorism not emboldening terrorists, about fighting disease and poverty worldwide, about rejecting torture, about affordable energy costs, about fighting global warming and developing sensible alternative energy sources, about quality education for our children, about tax and election reform, about keeping religion out of government and our schools, about caring for our senior citizens, about affordable prescription drugs, about providing quality health care for all, about creating good jobs, about protecting social security and Medicaid, about sexual equality and homosexual rights, about not enabling corrupt and oppressive governments, about a woman's right to chose and a fair Immigration policy, about civil rights for all, about safeguarding the environment and protecting wildlife and about not opting to stimulate corporate profits and malfeasance at the expense of the working class of this country. Democrats believe in spreading the wealth and taking the money from rich Americans who have worked hard for it or inherited it and then giving the money to the lower and middle class.

Taxes should be moderate, but are necessary for the protection and stability of our nation. We must pay back our debts and use tax dollars to fund critical programs which sustain the unfortunate members of our society and those who need help but can't get it.

Democrats are a party. Within the party there are always extremes and a great deal of leeway on issues as well variances in ideology.

Democrats generally believe in a woman's right to make choices about her body. This is obviously my attempt at a neutral statement saying pro choice in abortion.

Democrats generally believe in expanding government in humanitarian sectors. Humanitarian sector as used here is a very broad term referring to all the various agencies the federal government oversees. This is where Democrats receive the traditional "they will increase your taxes" comment from; by increasing these programs size more taxes are usually required to pay for them. To go into detail about the specifics of this would take days.

Democrats generally believe in and a more evenly distributing of money throughout the general populous. Most notably in their pushes for more aggressive progressive taxing on the wealthy and increase minimum wage.

Democrats typically don't put the same level of emphasis on national defense as their republican counterparts.

Democrats typically are vague on their plans with education. Like all politicians (republican, green, and democrats alike) there is constant call of education reform. What that reform is specifically and how it will be paid for, we usually don't ever get an answer from any of them. Traditionally democrats have favored strengthening the arbitrary U.S. Department of Education more than their republican counterparts.

To know specifically what any individual democrat would do about any given subject, look into them. They have probably made some claims. Look into their voting record, they have probably crossed the issue. There are a great many classifications of democrat, just as there are a great many classifications of theist.

EDIT: Democrats believe in heavily taxing the "rich" who worked for their money and give them to the "poor"who are mostly made up of having poor abilities in doing any good for the society or people who are too lazy to get a job.

Democrats believe in good education, so that there

are citizens who can THINK (reason); realize that we are all on the

same boat (planet Earth), so we need to pull together (or perish

together); and, incidentally, use good grammar.

Democrats believe in all sorts of things. Many good answers to this question are found on Answers.com. Some of the answers are issue oriented and focused on today's questions. Other answers are more general speaking about philosophy and tendencies. Some are historical answers and others are descriptions of the various parts of the makeup of the Democratic Party.

But the best answer is that Democrats believe in rights of the individual and justice. The right to participate in the democratic process as opposed to having restrictions such as voter ID placed between the citizen and the vote. The right to be free of government interference in private decisions such as a woman's right to follow the course recommended by her doctor.

Democrats are aware of the injustice that can come from economic systems that empower some people but wreck the lives of other citizens. Not everybody is made out to be an industrialist or even is capable of holding a minimum wage job because of illness or physical infirmity. Democrats seek economic justice for all citizens and seek to allow for everyone to meet their potential. It is a difficult balancing act, but it is the Democrats who, at least, attempt it.

What did the Democrats want for America?

Democrats would like to see an America where everyone. regardless of ability, knowledge or effort has a similar lifestyle to their neighbor. They believe that more portions of our jobs and careers should be controlled or owned by the Government rather then the private sector. The Democrats believe that that we need a more level playing field to ensure everyone in America has a closer lifestyle then they currently have. Shortfalls should come from (what is preceived as) the upper class.

Do democrats want big or small government?

That is a very good question. Democrats want government to serve the people. Democrats want government to solve problems. Democrats do not hate government; they understand that government has a purpose. At the same time they are not spend thrifts. The recognize the value of tax dollars and they understand that programs must be continued only if they are cost effective and do an important job. To believe that government should be smaller merely because you believe government should be smaller is thought by jingoism. People who do not like government make poor governors.
