Squirrles eat nuts and store them in the stomach and keep the food while hibernating. not only squirrels but also all other hibernating animals will eat lots of their common diet to store fat to use up during the long winter

Groundhogs typically eat weeds, grass,flowers,seeds, and occasionally insects. They do not usually deviate from this diet. However, during the winter they do not eat anything because they are hibernating. This period generally last from around October through March/April months. They generally will appear again with their appetites in spring season.
