The albedo is the relative reflectivity of light from a surface, which for solar radiation indicates the percentage of solar energy that is not absorbed. Darker bodies generally have a lower reflectivity value.

The Albedo Effect is the amount of sunlight that is reflected from the earth's surface. It generally most strongest in places where the surface is that are light in color such as snow, and weakest in darker areas such as the ocean.

Reflected light. If an object's (say Venus's) albedo is high, that means it seems bright for bodies of its size and distance. If the body is dark and its surface absorbs rather than reflects light (as does Callisto's), its albedo is low.

Albedo is a measurement of the reflectivity of an object, generally applied to celestial objects. An albedo of 1 would be perfectly reflective; it would reflect 100% of all the energy that strikes it. An albedo of 0 would be totally NON-reflective; NONE of the radiant energy that hits it would be reflective.

The Earth has an albedo of about 0.35, depending on the weather; clouds and snow reflect more, while trees and oceans reflect less.

The Moon has an albedo of about 0.04; it reflects about 4% of the incident light. The Moon is about as reflective as a charcoal briquette.

Albedo is a fractional measure of reflectivity. The higher the albedo, the more energy is reflected. A body with an albedo of 1 would be a perfect reflector. An object with an albedo of zero would absorb all the energy that hits it.

Overall, the Earth has an albedo of about .35, so about 35% of all the light that hits the Earth is reflected away, but that varies by terrain. High albedo areas are covered with clouds or snow or ice, or still water if the angle of incidence is low. Forests have low albedo, while wheat fields are average. Sand and dirt are quite low.

If you are concerned about global warming there are several easy and inexpensive steps to take to raise your personal albedo. If you are in the road construction business, concrete highways have a much higher albedo - reflecting away more heat - than black asphalt roads. Covering all highways with concrete instead of asphalt is probably the most cost-effective way of making MAJOR changes, And any of us can change our roofs to be white. The shingles on my roof are very light color, and reflect away a lot of heat. I can tell, because my air conditioning costs went down after I did it. If every roof were white, there would be no more threat of global warming.

The albedo of the Moon is 0.12. The Earth for comparison is 0.367.

"Vangelis" referred to the Earth as 0.39 on his album

Many clouds have albedo?

Yes, everything has albedo. Albedo refers to the reflectivity of any object or substance. White clouds have a high albedo - they reflect a lot of light. Dark clouds have a lower albedo; they don't reflect as much.

Where is there high albedo?

Actually the very highest Albedo is from fresh snow which reads .8 to .9 (1 being the highest possible on the Albedo scale)

What has the lowest albedo?

Albedo means reflectivity. The higher the albedo, the more light (and heat) is being reflected. Generally, the darker the color, the lower the albedo : most of the energy is absorbed. Snow has a fairly high albedo, as do clouds. Black tar roofs have a very low albedo.

What is something that has low albedo?

An object that has a high albedo is one that is highly reflective, but a poor absorber. An object that has a low albedo is one that does not reflect well, therefore, is a good absorber. This means that a black object has low albedo.

What is meant by 'albedo' of a planet?

Albedo is the fraction of sunlight that hits a planet that is reflected back out into space. A bright white planet that's full of ice would have a high albedo.

How do you use albedo in a sentence?

Astronomers deduced that Pluto was probably covered with ice due to it's relatively high albedo.

Which Earth material has the highest albedo?

Probably snow, if your Earth includes the totality of items found on the planet. Some clouds would have an albedo almost as high - but only in parts. If you wish to limit your answer to earth solids, then perhaps milky quartz, and marble would have a high albedo.

Which substance has a high albedo?

snow

What are 3 examples of a high albedo?

snow, white paper

What is the percentage of solar radiation reflected from a surface?

This is called the "albedo." It is the ratio of reflected light compared to incident light, and depends on the surface material and its condition (e.g. snow, grassland).

Does a mirror have a low albedo?

no. a mirror has a high abedo (perhaps the highest)

Many clouds have a high albedo therefore tend to?

reflect sunlight
