There could be a short to ground circuit . The fuel pump control circuit may also be sticking open which would also cause this fault.
Fuel Fault 22: Fuel pump drive circuit. Checks for short or open circuit to pump relay. There's a full list of fault codes here: http://www.jagweb.com/aj6eng/fault_codes.php
Any number of reasons, the most likely being, Fuel Pump Fuse, Relay, Open Circuit, Broken Wire. Or even ECU fault
A relay is a switch which opens / or closes a circuit
YES
The Camry's fuel relay is located in engine fuse box. When you open the fuse box you will see the relay is marked C/O (circuit open relay) this is your fuel pump relay.
The secondary fault circuit is generally a poor connection in the fuel pump circuit or possibly bad fuel pump. Check connection on top of gas tank and be sure to check ground wires.
There is a fuel pump relay (or circuit opening relay) attached to the ECU (engine computer) located behind the dash.
One is under the hood Labeled EFI. You can check it by swapping the horn relay to the side of it. Same relay. Hello. The circuit opening relay controls fuel pump circuit. When EFI main relay is energized, EFI main relay provides battery voltage to one side of circuit opening relay. Inspect this relay for fuel pump diagnosis. It is located at top corner of relay box, behind driver's side kick panel.
In order to test the fuel pump relay, you must check that the two control circuit terminals on the relay are not connected, using an ohmmeter. You must also test the power circuit terminals on the relay, in the same way.
fuel pump relay is in fuse box under hood circuit opening relay is behind kick panel on passenger side
Under the dash, above computer. It's on a bracket that grounds to the wall. Toyota calls it a "circuit opening relay", not a fuel pump relay.
If there is no fuel pressure and the fuel pump circuit, fuse and relay checks okay.
