An inhibitor is something that slows down or suppresses a reaction.
It depends on the context....

A resistor is an inhibitor, because it restricts the amount of power in a circuit.

Sone drugs are inhibitors because they reduce or restrict the effects of illness or disease.

Door locks are inhibitors because they only allow authorized people to enter.

In short - an inhibitor stops or reduces something happening.

Inhibitor is a compound or molecule that normally inhibits a function of a proteins or any process. Anitbiotic penicillin can inhibit the cell wall synthesis in bacteria. That is the reason we are taking ampicillin or penicillin when we catch bacterial infection.
