Among other things... it's a phenomenon in the human birth process God created, that teaches us a corresponding phenomenon in the "spiritual" birth process.

When a child is conceived [begotten]... the "nature" [characteristic traits, DNA, etc.] of the father is transferred to the child, which makes the child uniquely that father's child.

The Bible speaks repeatedly of the "Father" in heaven as "siring Children." That's what makes a father a father... the pro-creation of children.

But, instead of a human father's "human nature" being transferred to the child... God's Children partake of the "Father-in-heaven's" DIVINE NATURE - taking on the character traits and DNA of God through the indwelling of His "Holy Spirit" with which He seals His Children, making them uniquely His Child.

"...if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, HE IS NONE OF HIS... for as many as are led by the Spirit of God, THEY ARE THE SONS OF GOD." (Rom.8:9-14)

"The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, THAT WE ARE THE CHILDREN OF GOD..." (Rom.8:16).

"Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. His divine power [the Holy Spirit] has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness.

"Through these He has given us His very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the DIVINE NATURE and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

"For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith [here begins a list of the traits of God's DIVINE NATURE that should be developing and growing in the Child of God] GOODNESS; and to goodness, KNOWLEDGE; and to knowledge, SELF-CONTROL; and to self-control, PERSEVERANCE; and to perseverance, GODLINESS; and to godliness, BROTHERLY KINDNESS; and to brotherly kindness, LOVE.

"For if you possess THESE QUALITIES [of God's Divine Nature] in increasing measure [the development of these spiritual qualities, compares to a human child's physical development in the womb of its physical mother {and the edification of the spiritual church of God}], they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive [a miscarriage: under-developed, under-fed and malnourished] in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ." (II Peter 1:2-8 NIV).

Partaking of the Divine Nature is growing and developing into a precious Child of God... edified, fed and nourished through the wisdom, knowledge and understanding of the Word of God, the Bible... and led by the Holy Spirit.

"Hear, ye Children, the instruction of a Father, and attend to know understanding... Let thine heart retain My words: keep My Commandments, and live. Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of My mouth. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding." (Prov.4:1-7)

"The FEAR OF THE LORD is the beginning of WISDOM: and the KNOWLEDGE of the Holy [One] is UNDERSTANDING." (Prov.9:10)

We can't partake of [develop and grow in] the Divine Nature without the Father's wisdom, knowledge and understanding.
