∙ 15y agoGui9neas are facinating and intelligent critters who make about 20 separate noises.. all which indicate its mood or need and much pleasure can be gained by knowing what its saying to you!! When it squawks.. usually GP people say wheeps, this is its most common normal noise and means several things. It usually is a cry for attention. Hoi I want fed!! Hey come play with me!! or even Help!! my owner is trying to pick me up and I am nervous!!! Watch the pigs behaviour and you will soon see what they are trying to tell you. I have several and I cannot rustle a carrier bag, without causing a chorus of wheeping.. this is because they know that I have a veggie treat for them and its time to beg to be first to get a titbit. They are super smart. Their warning noise is a low buzz. When calm and happy and often being stroked and cuddled they suck their teeth which is a guinea pig purr a happy noise. And a distinct BRRRRR noise is usually a boy fancying a gal and saying, hello darlin!! Lastly and most important, if a guinea is very very angry and upset...it will make a repeated t,t,t,t,t,t, sort of spitting noise. This is its fighting talk. and if a guinea is doing that, never put you hand in as its very upset. Throw a towel over the animal and scoop it up gently and hold it and talk calmly to it till it calms down. This is VERY RARE, and you may keep guineas their whole life and never hear it, but its useful to know.

∙ 13y agoIt either means the animal is angry or in pain so make sure you check it to make sure it's ok but it can also mean it is happy and it's another way of them squeaking. if you are stroking them and they start growling it probably means they're happy.
