pH doesnt increase anything. But a high pH reading indicates acidity while a low one indicates a base. A pH of about 6.5-7 is neutral (water).

The pH will mainly change as a result of the presence of an acid or a base. When the pH is more than 7 it means it is basic and if it is below 7 it indicates acidity.

Reaction rate might be dependant on pH, but in most cases reactions -IF depending on pH anyhow- are faster at low pH (high acidity) than at neutral pH.

pH is based off the number of H+ ions in a solution. An increase in pH shows that there are more free floating H+ while a decrease means there are less H+ ions.
