What does the Bible mean by 'sound mind'?

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind. 2 Tim 1:7

This is a very important verse. Christians are not to have ANY fears except to fear the Lord. He has given us the Holy Spirit which is His Spirit of POWER, LOVE and a SOUND MIND. A sound mind is one that is clear, focussed on God and truth, not muddied up, not distracted. We get clarity from the Holy Spirit. If we live in fear, or entertain any type of fear, that is evidence that we are not trusting God. We must lay our fears at His feet and leave them there. Doing this will fill us with the power of God to become more like Him. This is a promise and if we stand on it and lay our fears down, we discover the power of Christ in our lives and we are filled with love and have a sound mind, or a mind that functions well.

(1) Soberness

(2) whole and healthy

(3) calm,discipline

C. Sound is used Metaphorically of Doctrine, The Faith,

also our Speech.

(1) Titus encouraged, "Young men likewise exhort to

be sober minded." Titus 1:6

(2) Peter declared, "Wherefore gird up the loins of

your mind, be sober,..."

D. The Sound and Sober Mind is one that is strong, firmly

convicted of the way of God.
