Being thirsty in hell is a mis translation taken from Luke 16, Read the entire text however not simply this snippet so you understand all of it, including the subject and object.

Luke 16

22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; 23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

ADDITIONALLY:

Most of the more than 400+ modern professing mainstream "Christian" denominations use this parable of Jesus to "prove" to themselves that "hell is a hot place."

But an honest look at this parable in conjunction with other scriptures, reveals that Jesus is speaking of the coming LAST GREAT DAY of God's plan... JUDGMENT DAY.

Most folks fail to notice that there's no "time frame reference" in this parable that would indicate WHEN all this stuff takes place. But when taken in context with other Scriptures on the subject of the Judgment, it's revealed that the TIME WHEN GOD'S SAINTS WILL BE TRANSPORTED ANYWHERE BY ANGELS will be WHEN JESUS RETURNS!

"And THEN [there's the time frame of this prophecy] shall appear the SIGN OF THE SON OF MAN IN HEAVEN: and THEN shall all the tribes [nations] of the earth MOURN, and THEY SHALL SEE THE SON OF MAN COMING IN THE CLOUDS OF HEAVEN with POWER and GREAT GLORY. And HE SHALL SEND HIS ANGELS with a great sound of a trumpet, and THEY SHALL GATHER TOGETHER HIS ELECT [like Lazarus] from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other." (Matt.24:30-31)

THIS IS WHEN LAZARUS IS "CARRIED BY THE ANGELS" in Jesus' Luke 16 parable. And WHEN will the angels do this? ONE THOUSAND YEARS BEFORE THE RICH MAN RESURRECTS FROM HIS GRAVE [see... the parable tells us that the rich man WAS BURIED! He was IN THE GRAVE -- IN HELL!]

Notice another prophetic Scripture regarding the timing of Jesus' return and Judgment Day. It begins with the resurrection of God's saints... and their REIGN WITH CHRIST ON EARTH FOR ONE THOUSAND YEARS [which is to us a very long TIME]:

"...THEY LIVED AND REIGNED WITH CHRIST A THOUSAND YEARS. But the REST OF THE DEAD [like the rich man] LIVED NOT AGAIN UNTIL THE THOUSAND YEARS WERE FINISHED. This is the FIRST RESURRECTION. Blessed and Holy is he [like Lazarus] that hath part in the FIRST RESURRECTION: on such the SECOND DEATH hath no power, but they shall be Priests of God and of Christ, and SHALL REIGN WITH HIM A THOUSAND YEARS..." (Rev.20:4-6).

So the parable of Lazarus and the rich man is about JUDGMENT DAY, the Last Great Day of God's plan of Salvation... but without any mention of the time frame of it... which other Scriptures provide for those who understand the timed phases of God's plan that His annual Holy Day feasts reveal to believers.

Lazarus is carried by the angels into the clouds along with the rest of God's saints a thousand years before the rich man resurrects from death in his grave; and SEES THE JUDGMENT SET for him and all the others. And HE'S IN TORMENT.... not THIRSTY!

"...THERE SHALL BE WEEPING AND GNASHING OF TEETH." (Matt.8:12)

Notice that the rich man doesn't ask for a TUMBLER of water for any alleged thirst. Nor does he ask for a BUCKET of water... or for a FIRE HOSE... to put out any tortuous flames licking at him.

No... he asks for a DROP OF WATER... because HE'S TERRIFIED AT THE PROSPECTS OF WHAT HE SEES. And what he sees is that THE PROPHECIES OF The Bible ARE COMING TO PASS! And in his torment and fear, his tongue is "cotton-dry" and sticking to the roof of his mouth [if you've ever experienced real terror before]. And he's having trouble speaking.

Jesus is telling us that Judgment Day is coming:

"He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is Righteous, let him be Righteous still: and he that is Holy, let him be Holy still. And, behold, I COME QUICKLY; and My Reward is WITH ME, to GIVE EVERY MAN ACCORDING AS HIS WORK SHALL BE." (Rev.22:11-12)

Lazarus will receive his reward, the rich man will receive his... and you and I will get ours. In our own APPOINTED TIME.

"...it is APPOINTED UNTO MEN once to die, but AFTER THIS THE JUDGMENT: so Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto THEM THAT LOOK FOR HIM [is anyone looking for Him?] SHALL HE APPEAR THE SECOND TIME without sin unto Salvation." (Heb.9:27-28)

There is a tradition that hell is hot and fiery, probably originating in the parallel Zoroastrian concept. However, there is no biblical support for this description of hell and therefore no biblical comment on thirst.

Another Christian tradition is that souls go to hell, while we leave our bodies in the grave. This means we leave our senses of pain, thirst and hunger behind, in the grave, along with our senses associated with pleasure.

A variation on this is a Christian tradition is that souls await final judgement, when the bodies rise up and are joined by their souls, to be rewarded or punished according to merit. In this opinion, the soul plays no apparent part in the reward or punishment, and the physical body would feel the heat and be able to thirst. At the extreme, it is not even clear why we have a soul. This version of Christian belief becomes more confusing the more you look into it.
