The first verse of the book of Revelation answers this question well -

The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:

additionally:

The "things which must shortly come to pass" are a series of "global events" [written as one of Jesus' famous public meaning-hiding 'parables'; Matt.13] that will lead up to "Jesus' return to earth" and the "completion of God's plan." [for instance, see the concluding chapters 19 through 22 that picture Jesus' return, His thousand year rule on earth, Judgment Day, the New Heavens and Earth, the Father's descent from heaven onto the New Earth, and the "New Beginning"].

"...Behold, I make all things new. And He said unto me, Write: for these Words are True and Faithful.... IT IS DONE..." (Rev.21:5-6).

The main thrust of the Book of Revelation is the events that surround the "seventh seal" Jesus strips away from the "scroll" that no man but He can open and look into [chapter 5:2-5].

The first six seals are all opened in chapter 6... leaving a whopping 16 of Revelation's 22 chapters left to explain "seal seven" [beginning in chapter 8]... which is the "Day of the Lord" ["...I was in the Spirit on the Lord's Day - Rev.1:10]-- the time of Jesus' return with the Kingdom of God, spoken of as the "gospel" [good news of God] and in dozens of prophecies throughout The Bible.

The "seventh seal" is composed of "seven trumpet" plagues of God [Rev.8:1-2]. Bible prophecies reveal Jesus' return with the Kingdom of God to earth and to gather His elect, will occur at the "last" trumpet sound [I Cor.15:52; I Thess.4:16; Matt.24:31].

Which Revelation sees fulfilled in chapter 11: "...the seventh [and last] angel sounded; and... The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of His Christ; and He shall reign for ever and ever." (verse 15)

And while Jesus Christ, then, finally reunited with His saints [at the last trump], and His angelic army that gathered them [Matt.24:31] hover above the earth in the clouds -- the final "seven vial plagues of God's wrath" are "poured out" on the earth [chapter 15:7-8 & 16]... before He makes His final descent onto the earth to defeat the armies of man gathered at Armageddon to fight Him[chapter 19].

"...These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for He is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with Him are Called, and Chosen, and Faithful." [chapter 17:14]

The book of Revelation talks specifically about the [seventh seal], the global events surrounding "the return of Jesus Christ to the earth with the Kingdom of God"... better known in Bible prophecy as "the Day of the Lord."

"...it is the Day of the Lord's vengeance..." (Isa.34:8).

"...proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the Day of vengeance of our God..." (Isa.61:2)

"...For the Day is near, even the Day of the Lord is near, a cloudy day [see Rev.6, seal 6; Matt.24:29]..." (Ezek.30:2).

"...the Day of the Lord cometh, for it is nigh at hand..." (Joel 2:1)

"Woe unto you that desire the Day of the Lord!..." (Amos 5:18).

"...the Day of the Lord is near..." (Obadiah 15).

"Seek ye the Lord, all ye meek of the earth... it may be ye shall be hid in the Day of the Lord's anger." (Zeph.2:3)

"Behold, the Day of the Lord cometh... For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle..." (Zech.14:1-2).

The book of Revelation talks about world events just ahead of us that shall see the fulfillment of all these [and more] prophecies regarding the Day of the Lord.

The LORD'S DAY! The Day that Jesus Christ returns to earth with God's Kingdom.

"Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the Words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand." (Rev.1:3)

"...behold, I come quickly; and My reward is with Me, to give every man according as his work shall be." (Rev.22:12)
