Many of the events in Jesus' life (covered in the New Testament) are either foretold or are foreshadowed in the Old Testament.

In general though, there is a distinct break with the God of the Old Testament when Jesus begins his ministry - he preaches of a God of love, and preaches a different way of life required to win his blessings.

Two different Covenant's, one before Messiah came and the other based on what He did on our behalf. The Tanakh or Old Covenant writings speak of His coming and describe His being cut off from the land of the living before the fall of the second Temple (Daniel 9/Isaiah 53) and also of His final coming (Zechariah 12:10) and victory over the enemies of God (Revelations). There was 350 years in between where the Lord neither spoke to nor through anyone. But The Bible tells us that in these last days (from Christ to the end of this age) the love of many will grow cold and men will love themselves and pleasure more than God, but there is hope in Messiah (John3:3-8; Roman's 6:23; Acts 2:38). I hope this helped

The Old Testament speaks of the coming of Jesus, and sets the scene.

The New Testament tells of the life and death of Jesus and how we should follow his example. A lot of Jesus's teachings are at odds with the Jewish way of life. He is always challenging the rabbis in the synagogues, with regards to working on the sabbath, or taking the best seats for oneself, etc.
