It connects to the crankcase vent, the air filter and the valve cover.
Changed the pcv valve. It fixed my p171 code on my 2001 escort. Have to get the PVC valve from the ford place. They are the only one that carry the right one. PCV valve is available at AutoZone part # PCV 1001 for 2001 Escort SOHC 2.0L
The PCV valve on a 1996 Ford Escort 1.9L is located between the engine and the radiator. It is near the vacuum hose.
The PCV valve is an abbreviation for Positive Crankcase Ventilation, which is the recycling of gases of a vehicle. In a 2002 Ford Escort the PCV valve is located in the front of the engine near the drivers side.
Have you tried replacing the PCV valve?
there is a vacuum hose for the pcv system on the back of the intake that sometimes gets a hole in it. this may cause your no idle condition
YES - according to www . motorcraft . com ( no spaces ) It shows for the 1991 Ford Escort / EXP - 1.9 L ( 116 cubic inch ) 4 cylinder PCV valve - Motorcraft part # - EV 157

According to the 1998 Ford Escort Owner Guide : A Ford dealer will change the PCV valve at no cost ( except California and Canada ) at ( 60,000 miles/ 96,000 kilometers )
The PCV valve is in the crankcase vent tube It is on the right of the exhaust heat shield below the ignition wires going into the coil.
Check the PCV Valve in the front half way down the engine
under the intake am sure
I have a 1998 Ford Escort ZX2 and the PCV valve was located to the right of the exhaust heat shield in front of the engine block. All I had to do was pull the rubber elbow out that was connected to the PCV valve and then pull the valve out. It was arguably the easiest maintenance work I've done on a car. I didn't have to take apart the heat shield or any other component.
