This is a simple description of finding the perimeter of a square or rectangle. It has 2 values to be added for length, and 2 to be added for width, the total sum equals the perimeter. If you add length and width and then multiply by 2 you can most likely arrive at the proper answer faster than adding the 4 values.

When people say perimeter is the length times width do they mean the whole shape?

If people say that "perimeter is the length times width" stop listening to them. They don't know what they are talking about.Length times width is the area, not the perimeter. For a square or rectangle, the perimeter is double the sum of the length and the width.

When given the perimeter how do you find the length and width?

Assuming you mean a rectangle: use the formula:p = 2(l+w) (i.e., perimeter equals twice length plus width). In this formula, replace p with the known perimeter, and l with the given length, then solve for width.

What is the perimeter of a rectangle whose with is 6?

I think you mean the width is 6. The answer depends entirely on what the length of the rectangle is. For example, if it is a square, so that the length and width are both 6, the answer is 24. I the length is 10, the perimeter is 32. In general, just add the width (6) to the length and double the sum to get the perimeter.

WHAT DOES 1* MEAN IN LENGTH/WIDTH MEASUREMENTS?

It means one times the length and width

Do you add length plus width to get perimeter?

It depends on the shape, but I'm assuming you mean a square or rectangle. If it is not this shape, edit the question. In this equation L=Length W=Width So, to get the perimeter, you would use this equation: 2L+2W= Perimeter

How do you find diameter of a rectangle?

Do you mean perimeter? If so....2 x length + 2 x width.

If perimeter of a rectangle is 65 and the length is 18 what is the wength?

Do you mean the width? If so then let the width be x: 2(length+width) = perimeter 2(18+x) = 65 36+2x = 65 2x = 65-36 2x = 29 x = 14.5 width = 14.5 units in length Check: 18+18+14.5+14.5 = 65

Rules of parameterarea in math for 7th class?

Do you mean "perimeter" and "Area"? If so, if you are finding the perimeter of a figure, you take the lengths of all of the sides and add them up. If you are finding area, the method of which you find the area of the figure depends on what the figure is. For quadrilaterals, the formula is: A=lw.(Area=length times width) For triangles, the formula is: A=1/2lw. (Area=One half length times width)

What is the perimeter of a rectangle having a perimeter of 28 cm if the width is 3 cm less than the length?

Do you mean what are the dimensions because the perimeter has already been given? If so then: length = 8.5 cm and width = 5.5 cm Check: 8.5+8.5+5.5+5.5 = 28 cm

What does the word width mean in math?

Width is how wide something is, length is how long something is.In maths w*l*h is width times length times height.

What is perimiter area of floor?

A perimeter is a linear measurement. An area is the product of two linear measurements, such as length and width. I cannot imagine what you mean by "perimeter area."

How would you find the perimeter from the width?

You need the length or the area, if you mean a rectangle: P = 2 x (L + W)
