For example a bank manager has a higher status than someone working as a cashier. This is because the manager has more experience, is looked up to and commands respect.
High status characters are usually portrayed as quite assertive people, usually loud and very sure of themselves. They are confident.
Low status characters are usually portrayed as quieter people who tend to just follow instructions. They are not very confident but get on with what they have to, they make a lot of submissive gestures and don't tend to argue much.
Of course one of the main reasons someone may be of low or high status is their monetary standing especially in the cases of older plays.

yes, that is what stauts means in real life. I go to an acting school and in drama, it's very different. Statuses go from 1 to 10. 1, 9 and 10 are artificial statuses. 1 is super, paranoid, shy fidgety character, so nervous it's almost comical, therefore making them an artificial character.
Status 9 is like that loud annoying person who makes like 20 friends on the first day of school, ususally insecure and this is how they protect themselves.
Status 10 is the cool guy who stands againest the wall during the school dance and goes "pfft this is soo stupid." Sometimes the bully. Think of it as either someone who looks down on others or they could also be insecure and this is how a status 10 person protects themselves.
8 is what people wish to become, but most people in real life live in 4 to 7 range. Status is very important in drama, it's usually taught with or before stereotypes. In drama, being able to status shift is very important.
