It depends on the specific worm. Some worms actually burrow through the cat's body and lay eggs inside its vital organs. Others simply attack to the insides of the cat and live off the cat's metabolism, draining the cat's energy. Generally speaking, parasitic worms are not good for any creature that they happen to be living in.

Worm eggs are left in the dirt or stuck to plants by other animals who have worms. If your cat rolls in the dirt or brushes against these plants, the eggs will often stick to her fur, and when she grooms herself later, she will ingest the eggs. Once inside her, the eggs will hatch, and the larvae will mature into worms.

Cats are predators by nature. Worms are smaller animals that can be easily caught. Cats don't eat worms for nutrition, they eat them simply for the thrill of the hunt.

Because live animals are more difficult to catch.
