Extremely reasuring. Solid job markets. Great economy. The baby boom hit making more families with soldiers coming home. Women could get jobs easier. Americans even had more leisure time. That was when America was good. Times have surely changed since then.
It is my understanding that the "baby boom" resulted from the return of millions of young American men (and women) from World War II. Having been away from the US for as many as 4-5 years, the returning GIs immediately sought out their girl friends (or wives), married them (novel idea, no?) and proceed to produce babies in record numbers. The US economy was booming after the war, and there was a huge spike in the number of babies born in this country. These babies - born starting in 1946 and lasting thru 1964 - are known as the "baby boom", hence "baby boomers".
79% of a baby is water
People born between (and including) 1946 and 1964. After American soldiers returned home from World War II in1946, the United States experienced an explosion of births (hence the name baby boom) that continued for the next 18 years, when the birth rate began to drop. In 1964, baby boomers represented 40% of the population, which means that more than one third of the population was under 19 years of age. In the 1990s, approximately 76 million people in the United States were born in the baby boom years, representing approximately 29% of the country's population. Since baby boomers make up such a sizable portion of the consuming public, their spending habits and lifestyles have a powerful influence on the economy.
Manufacturers influenced Americans to become a throwaway society because they would make products that they knew wouldn't last for long periods of time. Forcing them to throw the product away ( since there was no reclining or a care in the world what happened because they were so happy during the baby boom ) This caused everyone to buy more and more products and throw those away too.
