Burning fossil fuels like coal releases extra carbon dioxide (CO2) that is over and above the carbon movements of the earth's carbon cycle. This is extra CO2 because it has been out of the way for millions of years, since the time the fossil fuels were laid down. The earth's carbon cycle, which moves carbon out of the atmosphere, largely through vegetation's photosynthesis, is unable to cope with this extra CO2, (and man's deforestation activities didn't help either!). So carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases build up in the atmosphere, increasing the normal greenhouse effect to an accelerated greenhouse effect, which is causing global warming.

Why is environmental pollution largely a man made problem?

Pollution of the environment is caused to a large extent by people. They generate much solid wastes which are not properly disposed of, and they burn fossil fuels to have electricity, to fuel their cars and to operate their factories.

What are u doing about the electric car?

The problem with electric cars is, where does the electricity come from to charge them up? Most electricity is generated by burning coal or oil. Some is hydroelectric, and some is generated by burning natural gas. If you are burning oil or natural gas to generate electricity for your electric car, you are WASTING half of it; it would be better to carry the oil or natural gas with you, and use it for fuel. The only electricity source that really makes sense for electric cars is something that cannot be made portable, and produces less total pollution that burning gas; nuclear or hydroelectric powerplants. Unfortunately, there isn't nearly enough nuclear or hydro power to waste on electric cars.

What environmental problem does Canada share with both Mexico and the United Kingdom?

All three are contributing to global warming by burning fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) in industry, transport and the generation of electricity, which releases carbon dioxide.

When we finally do figure out how to generate large amounts of energy for free from fusion will the environmental crisis be nearly solved or will many more hurdles remain?

The energy conservation problem may be solved but not the other environmental issues.

Is hunger environmental problem?

no. because hunger is a human problem not an environmental problem.

Different ways of transforming energy have different environmental effects what waste problems of nuclear power plants is NOT a problem with a coal-burning power plant?

You don't list the waste problems, so how can I answer? However radioactive waste is not a problem for a coal burning plant

Relate a current environmental problem with possible causes?

The current environmental problems are caused by most of the human activities in the world. Some of the main causes include burning fossil fuels, transportation, industries and many more.

What warming is a serious environmental problem?

Global warming is a serious environmental problem.

Why have European nations had a second thoughts about using nuclear power instead of fossil fuels to generate electricity?

Disposal of depleted nuclear fuels its self a pollution problem.
