Best Answer

In 1531 the Spanish explorer Diego de Ordaz voyaged up the river, and that same year another Spanish explorer, Antonio de Berrio, descended the Casanare and Meta rivers and then descended the Orinoco to its mouth. Alexander von Humboldt would later explore the Orinoco basin extensively.
