Chief Justice Earl Warren was at the WH for the annual Justice Dept. dinner held near Thanksgiving. JFK was to leave shortly after for Dallas. Warren, a JFK friend who eulogized him later at the National Cathederal, was in the family quarters that were crowded. He told JFK directly it was ill advised to go.
Earlier in 1963, at the request of RFK, Gen. Douglas McArthur, a friend of the father Joseph P. Kennedy, met the brothers in the Oval office. They asked him to make inquiries about the growing volatility focused on JFK. All that was later repeated was that he told JFK and RFK, "you are surrounded by your enemies".
