Avoid eating fatty foods and foods high in fiber. Soups, stews, and other fluidic foods are easier to digest with gastroparesis. Blended and pureed foods ease the burden on the stomach. Eat small portions of food several times a day rather than eating three large meals.

I underwent surgery for a total gastrectomy some years ago and my dieticians initially gave me 'Build-Up', a formula full of proteins & vitamins. These are powders that are mixed with liquid (usually milk).

I have found, in the subsequent years, (I have to say by experience, because the medical profession don't really seem to understand about gastric dumping) that when I eat dairy-based products eg. milk, yoghurt, eggs, cheese etc. (& especially when I eat breakfast cereal with milk) it usually results in an episode of gastric dumping. Needless to say I've avoided them all like the plague since I realised! I now take calcium supplements to replace the vitamins I am missing.

I've also found that the sweet tooth I used to have has disappeared completely (so there are some good things to come out of it!), but I wonder if this is because most of the sweet things I craved (cream cakes, chocolate etc) are derived from dairy & it's a subconscious decision?

Also, another thing that friends & family originally asked was could I tolerate dense food such as meat. I have found that I can eat practically anything as long as it is in small amounts. However, I have also found that eating smaller portions doesn't mean that I won't have a bout of the dreaded dumping. It's a totally hit & miss affair.

When I was diagnosed I was told to avoid foods high in fiber, nuts and seeds, meat, foods high in fat, beans, leafy greens (like brocolli and lettuce), and that's just what I can remember!
