All galaxies appear to be unique; they are all equally uncommon.

Except ours; the Milky Way is the only galaxy to have US in it.

Edit : Galaxies are classified into various types. The most uncommon type

is known as "Irregular".

There is a lot of doubt about the answer to this question. Depending on the sources, it could be spiral or elliptical.

The most common type of galaxy is a dwarf galaxy.

Of the main types of galaxies:

Within our "local area" spiral galaxies are the most common with anywhere between 60 -> 75% of all galaxies. Ellipticals account only for 3 -> 20% whereas Irregular account for 5 -> 25%.

Confused? You should be.

The problem with the data is that it doesn't stipulate the area involved. Most percentages and answers are related to our local area and not the whole Universe. Also, as the most common type of galaxy is a dwarf elliptical galaxy, they use this as an Elliptical galaxy.

Also, as observation data on far away galaxies is a record of what they were then, not what they are now.

So: A dwarf elliptical galaxy is the most common type of galaxy, and a Spiral galaxy is the most common type of main galaxy.

Locally Main- Spiral galaxies are more common making up about 60% of all galaxies, whereas elliptical galaxies only account for about 10 - 15%

A difficult question as we don't know everything about the Universe.

A ball park figure would put dwarf galaxies as the most abundant.

What is the state of most of the matter is the universe?

The most common type of energy/mass in the Universe is in the form of dark energy, followed by dark matter. Only about 4% of the Universe is in the form of "normal" (baryonic) matter. If it is specifically to this matter you refer: the most common state of matter is plasma, found in stars.

Which stars are most common in the Milky Way Galaxy Why don't you see many of them in H-R diagrams?

The most common stars are Red Dwarfs. It is probable that up to 80% of all stars in the universe are red dwarfs. They are not visible on the on the H-R Diagram because they are hard to observe from Earth due to their low-luminosity. In contrast O-type and B-type supergiants are extremely rare. The reason for this is because they evolve and die quickly.
