In the USA during 1917 many men were going overseas to join the war. Women started to enter the workforce to replace the men leaving to go to war. Movie theaters were becoming popular with a lot of silent films. There was food rationing. Some of the richer people were getting indoor Plumbing and electricity but most people still did not have them.
Life in 1916 was filled with energy and excitement with the new airplanes and grand theater productions. Prior to World War I, the United States was enjoying a boom.
A first class stamp cost 2 cents.
Gas was 25 cents ($3 in todays money)
The word "robot" was first introduced.
