Hundreds of thousands of Poles were killed and the city of Warsaw was basically leveled. The Nazis rolled into to the nation with Gestapo, SS Men and administrative leaders in tow. They just went right in and took over Poland.
Next, they began killing Jews and forcing the Poles from their homes. They had German citizens take these homes. Many Poles were sent to concentration camps or Ghettos - it was not only Jews sent to those places.
The French and the Brits failed to come to Poland's aid. So the Poles lost the battles. Many of the Poles became resistance fighters against the Nazis.
