The great philosopher Erick Erickson said that in each stage of life we will face different trials. Each trial is hard of course, some harder than others such as this abuse. Erick said that people will either grow from their trials, or suffer maldaptions. What this person can do with their trial is let it be a stepping stone or a stumbling block. Either this person will believe the lies that were said about them and develop a poor self image and hold onto bitterness and change for the worse. Or this person can let go of bitterness, freeing them emotionally (bitterness has horrible mental health effects, it is a high cause of many of our modern psychiatric problems -insomnia in some cases- ,and our mental health is linked with our physical health) What this person needs is truth. According to my Christian views, God made that person perfect. If they were called ugly, no there not, God made them perfectly. If they were called stupid, God made them perfect., He knew them before they were born. They need life words. The truth will set them free. They need truth, God truth, life words about the lies they believe about themselves. And they need to forgive those who hurt them, bitterness is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to get hurt. There is a healing process, but these truth will set them emotionally free, then the healing process can begin.
