Water, which we know is H2O, will dissociate into a H+ ion and an OH- ion. These are the hydronium and hydroxide ions, respectively. In its liquid form, water is doing this all the time, and it is also "reassociating" all the time as well.

What is acidity of substances?

Acid is a substance that, when added to water, dissociates (dissolves) to release H+ ions into the water. The higher percent of the acid that dissociates, the stronger the acid.

When an acid ionizes in water it produces what when a base dissociates in water it produces what?

Inorganic acids release in water solutions the cation H+. Inorganic bases release in water solutions the anion OH-.

What makes something an acid hint what does it release in water?

When something dissociates in a solution is referred to an acid and it releases protons H+ in water.

Carbonic acid is fairly unstable and quickly dissociates into?

It dissociates into carbon dioxide and water, if it is in solution it dissociates into Hydrogen ion and bicarbonate ion.

How do you the salt ammoniumchloride behave in water?

it dissociates

Stronger formic acid or nitric acid?

Nitric Acid is the Stronger acid. it fully dissociates in water, to form H^+ & NO3^- Formic Acid ( Methanoic Acid) is a weak acid . It only partially dissociates in water. That it does not fully release all the hydrogen ions in the acid .

When water dissociates it forms which two kind of ions?

hydroniumhydroxyl

Hydroxide ions and cations.

What is a strength of a base?

The strength of a base is how much it dissociates in water.

What is always true of weak acids?

They will not dissociate 100% in water.

what is a solute that dissociates to release hydrogen ions and causes a decrease in pH?

A solute that dissociates to release hydrogen ions and causes a decrease in pH is an acid. To be more specific it is an Arrhenius acid and a Bronsted Lowry acid.
