- Evolution of heat
- Hydration of cement
- Finally hydrated particles will be formed which give strength to the structure.
- Ex: CaO + H2O ----> Ca(OH)2 .

CaO + H2O --> Ca(OH)2
The further reaction of cement when it solidifies is the formation of calcium carbonate with carbon dioxide from the atmosphere:
Ca(OH)2 + CO2 --> CaCO3 + H2O
