Life as we know it stops!!

The fact that water hydrogen bonds is what makes ice less dense than water, so it floats. This means that in the winter the ice forms on the top, insulating the rest of the pond from the worst of the weather and keeping everything alive. So no hydrogen bonding would mean death to everything in the pond, and since life evolved from water creatures, that's the end of it all!

The distance of the earth from the sun is just right to keep water liquid most of the time, which is quite handy, don't you think?
