The Host, is about a girl named Melanie Stryder that lives in a world, her world, that is taken over my worm-like silver organisms, called 'souls'. The souls have been going to different planets to take over 'hosts', hosts are the inhabitants of the planets. Just recently, the 'souls' have taken over Melanie Stryder's earth. Only few humans are alive, including her brother & th love of her life, Jared. But Melanie wants to search for her Aunt and cousin. Doesn't sound to hard, right? Wrong. Ever since the souls have taken over, (remeber that they live in the humans) so if Mel were to go outside from her hiding place, the souls would catch her and make her one of her own. Melanie decides to go alone and take the shot. She heads out, she then gets caught by the souls, and thinking she would rather die than become one of them, she jumps in an open elevator shaft. But she did not die, you see, the souls have specials of their kind that have a 'job,' like, Healers, or Seekers. Healers can fix ANYTHING. including our diseases we still have not found a cure for, like cancer. Healers can even make you not have scars. Anyhow, the healers 'fix' Melanie and put a soul into her. When souls are put into humans, the souls can find out any information about the host and see if there are more humans, and were they are... before Melanie is erased. But Melanie refuses to go away. The soul and Melanie constantly fought, but then Melanie shows the soul her memories of Jared and Jamie, & the souls begins to love them to. Want to be with them. Want them for her own... The soul runs away to the desert in search for her wantings.
