Hey! I've just been looking up the exact same question as you, so here goes:
Advantages:
- The researcher/interviewer can adapt the questions, as they feel necessary, given a person's reaction
- Discomfort, stress, and other bodily language can easily be detected, face-to-face
Disadvantages:
- Respondents may feel uneasy answering personal questions, face-to-face with the interviewer
Hope this helps! :D
A disadvantage of using this method would be that the interviewee could randomly end the interview without warning or explanation, by hanging up the phone. This is understandable given the numerous marketing calls people are bombarded with on a daily basis. To minimize this type of no response problem, it would be advisable to call the interviewee ahead of time to request involvement in the survey, giving an estimated idea of how long the interview would last and setting up a mutually convenient time. In doing this, interviewees are shown courtesy which they tend to appreciate making them more likely to operate.
Answer
I've never heard of any other type of interview other than a one on one Interview. However if there were two people in an Interview room it shouldn't matter you speak to the two of them the same way you would speak to one Interviewer. There are no pro's and or con's to an interview, it's all in the way you handle yourself.
pros: 1: an interviewee might feel comfortable in one to one interview rather panel interview. he might get confused or feel hasitation facing many people at a time. so he might not be able to answer well. cons: 2: if a company takes only one to one interview, then it can not judge its candidate weather they can face a critical situation or not.
I don't think that there is a disadvantage to a one on one interview.
