Barack Obama got his Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Columbia in New York City, and his Doctor of Laws (JD) degree from Harvard Law School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He worked as a community organizer and an advocate for the poor before he became a civil rights lawyer in Chicago. He also taught courses in law for the University of Chicago. In 1996, he decided to enter politics, running and winning a seat in the Illinois State Legislature; he served three terms. He ran for US Senate in 2004, and then was elected president in 2008. He served two terms. Currently, he is giving speeches, and he has said he will help to train potential Democratic candidates.
