From the perspective of the law, marriage is only there to provide support for the children. When two people are married, the law declares that any children resulting during the marriage are the responsibility of BOTH parents. The law does not concern itself with concepts like "love" and "passion", it's only interested in deciding who is responsible for the outcome.

Legalizing gay marriage opens the door for gay adoption, which some argue will eventually cause even more dysfunctional adults.

It would seem that Mr. Bush's biggest problem with same-sex marriage is that if he is seen failing to oppose it, that could alienate his biggest supporters.
