Naples is Italy's second largest port in the Tyrrhenian sea. It is located on the western coast of the country, around the ankle of the Italian boot.

Equipment at the port includes 15 cranes with hook (12- to 20-ton, of which two are 12-ton cranes with bucket) and four 50-ton portainers. There is also one 60-ton floating crane, and 3 self-moving cranes, one Liebherr 1300 HD and 2 Gottwald HMK 280E for loading, unloading and handling of containers.

Other equipment at the port includes 11 mobile gangways for passenger traffic, 2 mobile towers with 4 suction pipes with a total rated capacity of 600 tonnes/hour and an output capacity of 3,200 tonnes/day and pipes to the grain silos with total suction capacity of 200 tonnes/hour.

Storage facilities include shed and warehousing space, 1,000 tons of cold storage, coal storage, bonded warehousing and open storage. There are berths with pipeline connections to coast storage facilities.

The Port of Savona has the ability to handle the following cargoes: forest products, general cargo, steel, grains, oil, bulk cargo and containers.

Forest Products Terminal has 550 m of loading quays, 16,000 sq. m of roofed warehouse and 120,000 cu. m capacity for 40,000 tons of goods. Railway and road connections are available.

General cargo area in Savona for 50,000 sq. m (10,000 in use and 40,000 for readiness) and warehousing for 50,000 sq. m (7,000 in use and 43,000 for readiness)

There is a steel terminal of 12,000 sq. m.

The Cellulose Terminal has 8,000 sq. m of warehousing, with a capacity of 60,000 cm. Fork lifts are available.

The Grain Silo has 2 discharging pneumatic mobile towers and one loading mobile tower. It has a stocking capacity of 60,000 cu. m. Five rail lines are connected to the port system.

Societa Funiviaria Alto Tirreno plant handles bulk cargoes with four 6-ton gantries. It is connected by ropeway to a 600,000 ton stockyard.

The container terminal at Vado Ligure has 465 m of quays, a park of 20,000 sq. m with 2 transtainers (35 tons capacity under spreader, 17.9 m lifting height, 15 rows) and 2 portainers (45 tons capacity under spreader, 43 m outreach) for 3,000 TEU of storage.

Reefer Terminal has 2,800 sq. m of covered storage. There is refrigerated storage for about 1600 tons of fruit. The conveyor belt discharge system is fully automated and computerized.

Cereol Italia silos in Vado Ligure (65,000 tons of storage) handle vessels up to 60,000 dwt.

San Raffaele Pier discharges and loads bulk cargoes. Equipment includes 2 slewing grabs and a loader.

Sea Buoys Terminal has 7 buoys, 35 m draft mooring supertankers, coastal shore tankers for oil products and 4 tanker terminals.

The main port of Italy is known as the Port of Gioia Tauro. The second and third busiest ports are the Port of Genoa and the Port of La Spezia.
