Not sure what you are asking here, but this is the basics: The Greeks called the "God of all the Gods" Zeus, the Romans called him Jupiter. The name was used for the planet, because it is the biggest one in our solar system.

Really there isn't a connection to the physical planet Jupiter. However, the almost identical Zeus to the Romans was named Jupiter. So no connection (at least on the greek end) to the physical planet.

Jupiter was named after the Roman version of Zeus. Just as Zeus was the king of the gods in Greek mythology, so Jupiter could be called the kind of the planets. It is the largest planet in the solar system and has a greater mass than all the other planets combined. Oddly, Jupiter had its name long before people knew it was the largest planet.

In Roman mythology, he was the father of some gods such as Mars and Mercury (and several demigods, including Hercules), but not all of them; in particular, he was the brother of his wife Juno, and also Neptune and Pluto, and he was the son of Saturn (and therefore grandson of Ouranos/Uranus).

No. The planet Jupiter is named after the Roman god Jupiter. Zeus is merely Jupiter's Greek name (they are one and the same god). As king of the gods, there can be no god above him.

Jupiter is the Roman equivalent of the Greek god Zeus, who was the main god, or the father of all the gods.I was taught that in Latin, "father god" is Deus pater.Deus pater, over time began to sound like "joos-piter" and eventually Jupiter.Another possibility is the Italic sky god "Diespiter"(Dies=Day, piter maybe father) who was sometimes the same as Zeus/Jupiter.

Who or what is Jupiter named after?

Many of Earth's Solar System's planets were named after Mythological gods and goddesses. Planet Jupiter is named after the Roman Mythological "head god", Jupiter. In Greek Mythology this same leader of the gods was called Zeus. Prior to that, in Babylonian times, the planet was believed to have been their god Marduk. Planet Jupiter was known long before many of our other planets were, because it is visible without the aid of telescopes in the evenings, and ancient civilizations could sometimes even see it during the day, when Earth was in a certain position. The four moons of Jupiter were also named after Roman Mythological entities. All were named for Jupiter's lovers: Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto.
