Boarding pass is the ticket that you get at the check in counter once your check in completed. It has your name(s),seat number,gate number,departure time etc. printed on it. You are supposed to present it to the airport staff present at the gate before boarding.Or they do not let you on the plane. It is rather useless after that.
If you lose your boarding pass you can normally go to the gate and have them check your name in the system. If you lose both your passport and boarding pass you're in trouble.
