At the end, I think he realizes that he doesn't have to choose a side. It doesn't matter what school he attends or what team he plays for - he'll always be that kid from the barrio. He knows that and his friends know that, and they're OK with whatever decision he makes and whatever school he attends. By the end of the big game, he plays hard for Columbus, and he's still accepted by his old Franklin teamates. What's the saying? "You can take a kid from the streets, but you can't take the streets out of the kid."
