A culprit in obesity is the availability of cheap unhealthy food.

The body is like an accounting ledger. Assets in - assets out = a balance. If you put a lot of assets in, like cash in the bank, and take few out, like limiting the number of Ferrari's you have in your garage, your bank account could get very FAT.

The body is like that. A calorie is a unit of energy. Your body stores calories as if they were batteries in the storm celler, waiting there until they're needed.

Obesity, is caused by a vast imbalance in this formula. Like tobacco, food can be highly addictive, specifically the high fat and high fructose corn syrup foods that happen to be inexpensive and flavourful. Fried chicken, greasy burgers, potato chips, candy, soft drinks, Pizza, processed foods, all contain far too many calories than the body needs. Unlike fruits and vegetables, which contain more fiber than calories, these cheap foods are low in fiber and high in carbohydrates (starches that the body turns into sugar and fat with the help of Insulin), sugars, and fat. And as the body is consuming these cheap foods and mega calories, it is becoming less and less inclined to work on the other half of the equation: the expending energy part.

After getting in the habit of eating at fast food restaurants, it doesn't take the body long to just want to take a little nap after lunch, then maybe take the car instead of biking to work. then perhaps start ordering that good Pizza for delivery instead of even going out for it...
