Low profile just means that the fan hangs down less then the other ones. If a standard fan hung down 12 inches as an example, anything that hung less then 12 inches could be considered as having a lower profile.

How far down from ceiling do you hang a fan if ceiling is 11 feet high?

The same height as the downrod is. Don't buy a low profile or flush mount ceiling fan, because these are specially designed for places where the ceiling is less than eight feet high. I would suggest you buy a traditional ceiling fan or a industrial ceiling fan. Industrial ceiling fans are specially designed for high and big places. Is the Hunter 20803 52-inch white low profile iii fan ok to use on the ceiling of an open porch?

As long as the fan does not directly come into contact with water of any kind it will be fine. As the fan is a low profile it has to be installed up against a flat surface. If the open porch has an open ceiling then accommodation will have to be made for a backboard for it. The ceiling junction box will have to cut through this backboard and be flush with this board for a proper installation. The circuit for the fan should be installed on a GFCI for safety reasons. If the outside humidity is high in your area there might be condensation problems within the motor unit. The best fix for this if the humidity is high is to leave the fan running all of the time until the humidity level drops off. This keeps the motor windings warm and it is harder for the condensation to form. If this is a new installation you might want to think about installing a wall switch. On my switch there are three settings, low, medium and high. The fan wiring is installed to operate the fan in the highest speed and the switch controller regulates the fan speed.

Is a black ceiling fan more becoming then a white ceiling fan?

There is no actual real significant difference, besides the color. A black ceiling fan works the exact same as a white ceiling fan. Of course, the brand of the fan might make a difference, though the color of the fan will not.

You think that your ceiling fan is giving you a headache in the morning?

Mine? No. Yours? It's possible. If you lie in such a way that the breeze from the fan dries out your sinuses during the night it could. If your ceiling fan is noisy and running all night it could cause a headache. If there are poorly sheilded eletrical wiring in your ceiling fan and you are sensitive to electro magnetic fields that could cause a headache. If your ceiling fan is hung too low and you bang your head on it in the morning then that would probably cause a good headache. If the ceiling fan falls from the ceiling onto your head that will almost certainly cause a headache and/or concussion or serious injury or death.
