Low profile just means that the fan hangs down less then the other ones. If a standard fan hung down 12 inches as an example, anything that hung less then 12 inches could be considered as having a lower profile.

As long as the fan does not directly come into contact with water of any kind it will be fine. As the fan is a low profile it has to be installed up against a flat surface. If the open porch has an open ceiling then accommodation will have to be made for a backboard for it. The ceiling junction box will have to cut through this backboard and be flush with this board for a proper installation. The circuit for the fan should be installed on a GFCI for safety reasons. If the outside humidity is high in your area there might be condensation problems within the motor unit. The best fix for this if the humidity is high is to leave the fan running all of the time until the humidity level drops off. This keeps the motor windings warm and it is harder for the condensation to form. If this is a new installation you might want to think about installing a wall switch. On my switch there are three settings, low, medium and high. The fan wiring is installed to operate the fan in the highest speed and the switch controller regulates the fan speed.
