Photons are made of nothing - it's just a force. However, some scientists hypothesize that a photon is a particle, because we can feel it, see it and it has a speed. According to this information, we have come to the conclusion that a photon is half particle and half force.

In physics, a photon is an elementary particle, It is the basic unit of "light".

It has dual properties one is wave like nature and other is particle in nature.

It is not created, but it shows the propertie of the light.

Let us analyse these equations for this issue: E = mc², (1); E = p, p = mc, (2); E = p, E = mc + p vibration + p spin (3); E = h c / λ, since c / λ = f, E = h f (4).

A photon's mass is positively proportional to its energy --- this conclusion is coming from these mathematical expressions that show the relations between photon's energy and mass: equation: E = mc², (1); E = p, p = mc, (2).

While equation (3) and (4) below show a different story --- the mass m of the photon is a fixed quantity.

In equation set E = p, E = mc + p vibration + p spin (3). We know the m cannot change (especially cannot become bigger) and the photon's speed keeps at c for efficiency reason --- driven by the most fundamental natural tendency --- matter tend to stay in the more thermodynamically more stable state. While the vibration momentum p vibration can change in a wide range to absorb or release the energy.

In equation set E = h c / λ, since c / λ = f, E = h f (4) "Where E is the photon energy, h is the Planck constant, c is the speed of light in vacuum and λ is the photon's wavelength. As h and c are both constants, the photon energy changes with direct relation to wavelength λ." In equation(4), it doesn't mean photon's energy is not related to its mass but show exactly that the mass is in the h and it is a constant --- the mass will not change when its frequency change. That shows the energy of a photon is not related to its mass quantity but to its frequency --- the momentum of its vibration p vibration in equation (3). And this shows that among equation (1) (2) (3), only equation (3) is the one that is most close to reality. While equation (4) is also correct though its mass content is hidden in the constant h and not revealed --- the founder of this equation had done great job, now it is our (I mean you --- the scientific society of physics) job to further analyse this Planck constant and reveal the hidden mass in it.

In E = mc², (1), this means the structural energy of a photon. But photon is already the final product of the complete mass - energy transformation in the extreme conditions in the black holes. The last structure had been crushed to release all the structural energy in mass state matter. Photon is the smallest unit of energy and mass that can exist in a stable state --- it cannot have more mass than a quantum of mass to build a more complex structure. And also we have already analysed the reason the speed of photon is constant in vacuum space --- it has a rigid mass quantity and a rigid structure to keep --- this structure is so basic that it only have a minimal structural energy in it. Another word --- it's mass and structure is a fixed minimal quantity and simplest structural pattern --- it simply cannot have a more thermodynamically more stable state to lean to. Instead, it has to depend on its momenta energy to maintain its existence state stable. While the energy difference between gamma ray and radio wave is so great --- It ranges in big range of mathematical dimensions that simply cannot be proportionally reflected in the mass of the photon --- it is only possible for the photon to keep a constant speed c in vacuum space when the mass of it is a fixed quantum of very, very small package. And moreover, the mass of the photon cannot be converted into energy (though energy dissipation do convert into mass) --- because that will be an entropy deceasing process which cannot happen in normal conditions. That is the reasons that E = mc², (1), cannot reflect the reality in the photon and cannot solve the problems relate to photon energy and mass.

1. E = mc², (1), reflecting the structural energy in mass, but in the case of photon, it doesn't have structural energy in it (or say the dominant energy is not structural energy but the momenta energy).

2. A photon is already the smallest unit of mass and energy which is the final product of the complete mass - energy transformation in the extreme conditions of the black holes. In a photon, it is impossible to have a complete mass - energy transformation process in it --- so its existence state is not an alternative oscillation between particle state and wave state existences but a constant state of mass existence. The oscillating changes between electric field and magnetic field are caused by the internal movement of vibration and spin that caused the alternatively dominating oscillations of the two fields.

In E = p, p = mc, (2), obviously, it did not reflect the reality --- it only reflected the forward momentum but missed out the only and most important part of the momentum energy adjuster in a photon --- the vibration momentum p vibration that reflect the frequency. Calculation based on it cannot fit into the experimental data is a logical result. And any mathematical equation that is based on this equation will also wrong as a consequence.

So, from the above analysis, we can draw a conclusion: only equations E = p, E = mc + p vibration + p spin (3); E = h c / λ, since c / λ = f, E = h f (4) are correct and can be used in describing the relations between the energy and mass of a photon. Since c / λ = f, so c = f λ, speed c is irrelevant to frequency f or wavelength λ. And also E = h c / λ, E = h f, so frequency f or wavelength λ only relevant to the energy E, while the mass hidden in h and speed c are both constants. So we can reasonably speculate that the mass of a photon is always there and does not change as long as it is moving --- at the speed of c in vacuum, and have vibration and spin, while the energy change is reflected in its frequency change and the energy is stored or released in its vibration momentum p vibration + p spin (the spin period has to be positively correlate to the f) --- frequency change have no effects on forward momentum mc. That revealed a truth --- photon's mass is a fixed quantum regardless of its energy states. While speed c also irrelevant to the energy states of a photon, c = f λ, f = c / λ, E = h c/ λ, E = h f. The energy states of a photon only relate to the second and third sections of equation (3) --- the momenta of vibration and spin. The oscillating changes between its magnetic field and electric field are caused by the corresponding periodic oscillating changes of its vibration movement and spin movement. The mass of photon is a fixed quantum --- irrelevant to photon's energy state, whether it is a gamma ray or a radio wave, they have the same mass quantum in it and that decides their speed in vacuum are the same.

In equation set (3) --- E = p, E = mc + p vibration + p spin (3),

1. The first section mc reveals what a photon is: A quantum --- a fixed smallest package of mass that has no structural complexity in it and hence no structural energy in it and its thermodynamically more stable state is not a structurally more complex state but the other side of the oscillating fields between the alternatively dominating electric and magnetic forces caused by the periodic movements of vibration and spin. While all the movements: forward, vibration and spin are vital to the existence of this photon --- because it has no structural energy to keep its existence state stable but only depend on the different forms of momenta energy to keep its existence. Without them, photon will no longer exist. It will simple decay into smaller parts that cannot stably exist independently but only can be used as components to compose bigger things.

2. The second and third sections revealed the difference between photons --- they can have different energy states and that energy difference can only be expressed in their vibration and spin momenta.

3. Photon structure and its internal energy distribution: Forward momentum energy mc is fixed amount while p vibration + p spin is flexible --- it is the p vibration + p spin that are spontaneously converting energy between the forward momentum mc and the p vibration + p spin to keep forward momentum p = mc constant. And this is caused by the most fundamental natural tendency of matter --- to keep its existence state at a thermodynamically more stable state. The mass m is rigid --- it is the last unit of mass and energy that can stably exist --- that determined it doesn't have structural flexibility. For that reason, the forward momentum and the speed c also have to be rigid. The c is the maximum speed it can maintain its maximum forward momentum and it is that momentum which keeps its structure. Its speed stop at c because that is the equilibrium point that keeps the thermodynamic efficiency at optimal state and its structural stability at optimal state. It is for efficiency reasons.

4. Though p vibration + p spin can cover vast range of energy potential that across many mathematical dimensions but

1) When the energy given to it is too much for its capacity (of its structural stability) to adjust, that extra energy will be converted into mass --- of either another particle or the same particle that is heavier to remain as a photon anymore and it also can no longer keep its constant speed c in vacuum space.

2) When the energy draw from it is too much for its capacity to adjust, this photon will no longer be able to remain as a photon but decay into something else --- the smaller things that cannot exist stably by themselves but only can be used to compose something else.

From our analysis for equation set (4), we can draw conclusion for equation set (3) --- E = p, E = mc + p vibration + p spin (3). In (3), forward momentum mc will never change regardless its frequency f or wavelength λ changes. All the frequency f or wavelength λ changes are reflected in the vibration momentum p vibration and p spin. That explained why the speed c is constant in vacuum space and also why the mass m is constant. The mass of photon is a fixed quantum for all photons and therefore the speed c for all photons. It also proved that a photon have mass --- a photon doesn't have structural energy to keep its structure stable but it has to depend on its momenta energy to keep its existence --- that is why its movements that generate the forward, vibrate, spin momenta are so important to it. That is the reason mass cannot have a rest state of existence. And there is no such thing as a momentum without mass. The h of Planck constant proved exactly that --- the mass of photon is hidden in it ready to be revealed.

So, we found a job for physics science society --- to find out the mass hidden in the h of Planck constant. Notice:

If you find other occasions the author mentioned the mass - energy transformation process in a photon, please correct them in your mind --- there is no such process in a photon and I have just found out that recently and cannot correct all occasions I made such wrong statement. I will leave them there as a thinking information evolution record.

It's a little white solid round ball. It's the smallest possible piece of radio, heat, light, or X-ray there can be.

It has no mass when it's standing still, but it never stands still. It has mass when it's moving, all photons
move at the same speed, but they don't all have the same mass.

They also have frequency and wavelength.

I'm not making this up.
