Best Answer

Lysosome contain digestive enzymes for almost all type of organic material. If their covering membrane breaks as it happens during injury to cell, the digestive enzymes will spill over cell content and digest the same. As lysosomes are organelles which on bursting can kill cells possessing them ,they are called suicide sacs.

The lysosome was nicknamed the suicide sac shortly after it was discovered.

And the lysosome, by the way, is an organelle in eukaryotic cell.

...Prior to the death of certain cells, the lysosomes would release chemicals that destroyed the cell. Later on, scientists realized that as the cell dies, the membrane which encloses the lysosome is generally the first thing to deteriorate. When that membrane deteriorates, the contents of the lysosome spill into the cytoplasm of the cell. Why does this kill the cell? Think about it. The cytoplasm is full of proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates. What do the contents of the lysosome do? They break down these molecules. Thus, when the contents of the lysosome are released into the cell, they begin breaking down the cytoplasm. That spells the death of the cell.
