It has long been assumed that ADHD is a disorder only for children but professionals have realized that it also occurs through adulthood. There is some research that points out that ADHD may be hereditary. Other contributors include: high amounts of lead present in the body, prematurity, or damage in the prefrontal lobe. Approximately 30-50% of children found with ADHD will continue to have the symptoms of the disorder through adulthood. In the long-run, this will severely impact their relationships with people and their professional lives.

Symptoms of ADHD found in adults include:

- Being impatient and acting on impulse

- Fidgeting with hands. In other words, they cannot sit still.

- Failure to successfully perform simple tasks at work

- Being distracted from work and becoming disorganized, thus losing things

Adults diagnosed with ADHD may find themselves suffering from drug abuse, anxiety, depression, and problematic personal relationships. The disorder can be treated with medication, such as antidepressants. Skills training, counseling, and joining support groups may be very beneficial as they will relieve the affects of ADHD. Changing careers into a more suitable one that matches the personality and energy level will alleviate the stresses of work.

How mature is a 17 year old girl with ADHD?

That depends on the girl. ADHD does not control how she is in every way or affect maturity. There are also different levels of ADHD and how she has been raised and plays a big part. ADHD can be medicated so they have a easier time to concentrate and focus but that has nothing to do with maturity. A 17yo is not an adult yet but more adult than a child. So it depends on the person.
