I believe it is the Ambient light sensor to auto adjust screen brightness.
In my 2004 GMC Canyon, the ambient light sensor is mounted at the right side of the dashboard. It is mounted below the dashboard and has a lens on the surface so that it can measure the ambient light that reaches the sensor through the windshield.
Not wanting to state the obvious here, but it's a sensor that detects the ambient (outside) temperature. This then links through to a light on the dash and is used to warn you of a possible risk of ice. HTH

The ambient air temperature sensor, on your Nissan automobile, is located in the drivers side mirror. The sensor is on the bottom of the mirror.
If you are reading a code with the description "ambient temp. sensor open" that means that the sensor or the wiring to the sensor is open or broken. The sensor will have to be replaced or the wiring to the sensor repaired. Have it troubleshot prior to just throwing parts at it.
